چکیده

Materials and methods twelve newborn female Wistar rats were used, and half of them submitted to saline solution administration (control) and the other half were administrated monosodium glutamate solution, 4.0 mg/Kg body weight (obese) in neonatal period. At adult age (90 days of life) these female rats were mated with health male rats and the male offspring were used, divided into two groups: control (CONT, n=29) and obese (OB, n=19), according to its previous dam group. In all adult age (from 3rd to 7th months) the rats were monthly evaluate the Lee Index, water and food intake, 12h-fasting glycemia, oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) and insulin test tolerance (ITT). In addition, from OGTT Results it was estimated the area under the glycemic curve (AUC). All data were statistically analyzed with 5% significance.

The Effect of Maternal High-Fat Feeding on Energy Homeostasis in Stressed Adult Male Rat Offspring

Introduction: In the present study the effect of chronic maternal high-fat diet consumption on energy homeostasis and glucose metabolism in response to chronic stress was investigated in adult male rats. Materials and Methods: Female rats were divided into two groups of normal and high fat diets. Each group received their diet from 3 weeks before pregnancy until the end of lactation. At 8 weeks...

Effect of maternal variable stress on oxidative status and glucose metabolism in pubertal male rats

Introduction: Metabolic disorders are affected by negative stress experiences in the early stages of life. Accordingly, in this study, the effects of stress during pregnancy on oxidative status and glucose homeostasis in pubertal male Wistar rats were investigated. Materials and Methods: After pregnancy, female rats (200±30 g) were divided into 2 groups (6 rats per group) of stress and non-stre...

Maternal obesity at conception programs obesity in the offspring.

Risk of obesity in adult life is subject to programming during gestation. To examine whether in utero exposure to maternal obesity increases the risk of obesity in offspring, we developed an overfeeding-based model of maternal obesity in rats utilizing intragastric feeding of diets via total enteral nutrition. Feeding liquid diets to adult female rats at 220 kcal/kg(3/4) per day (15% excess cal...

Evaluation of the Protective Effect of Astaxanthin Against Undesired Effects of Prenatal Bacterial Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) Exposure on Maternal Behaviors and Neuronal Changes of Adult Male Offspring in NMRI Mice

Background: Prenatal bacterial lipopolysaccharides (LPS) exposure causes damage of the brain and gonadal system. The aim of this study included determination of astaxanthin effect to ameliorate undesired effects of bacterial LPS during fetal period and improve maternal behavior, body weight and length and neural changes in adult male NMRI mice. Methods: Pregnant female mice were divided into fou...

Evaluation of possible toxic effects of spearmint (Mentha spicata) on the reproductive system, fertility and number of offspring in adult male rats

Objective: In this study we investigated the effects of spearmint (Mentha spicata Labiatae) on the reproductive system, fertility and number of offspring in adult male rats. Materials and Methods: Adult Wistar male rats in one control (C) and three experimental groups (I, II and III) received 0, 10, 20 and 40 mg/kg spearmint extract orally for 45 days, respectively.  Following this treatment, t...
